The video shows a student visiting office hours to discuss a grade he has received on a paper. The first part of the video shows an interaction that leaves the student feeling unhappy. Suggestion: stop the video after viewing the interaction and discussing what went wrong and why? What were the student's objectives? What did he hope to gain? What did the instructor want to communicate to the student? Did she do so successfully? What underlying cultural expectations might be in conflict in this scenario?
The video goes on to explain some cultural differences and then shows the same scenario handled very differently. After viewing, compare the difference between the two ways the situation was handled and how the instructor addressed the issue of giving feedback to a student in each one.
